Baking Deadline Day

The summer baking window is now closed!

All my summer bakes are done, dusted and out the door. No amount of money could get me to part with another cake for a few weeks. It’s time for Cakemole to have a well earned rest.

The list!

I think this summer has been one of my busiest yet and I’m really pleased with some of the things I have made. In June I made an Avengers cake, a Minecraft cake, an Aston Villa cake and a retirement cake. July was a little quieter with just a Cats Tea Party cake. In August things got really busy. I made a Guinness cake for a friend of mine, a cake for a baby shower, a Wanda & the Alien birthday cake, plus something I’ve never done before – a Bride & Groom cake topper out of modelling paste.

Towards the end of the month things got a bit more adventurous. I made a really cute chocolate Teddy Bear (with a bit of a sad face) and the one I’m most pleased with – a three tier Greek Island Wedding cake with ninety cupcakes.

With all the fever surrounding the new series of the Great British Bake Off, there was just about time to squeeze in a bit of tutoring too – for my husband!

His office are running a GBBO sweepstake, with each person being assigned a baker and then when that baker leaves the competition, they have to make something to bring into the office. He wasn’t pleased when previous week’s Star Baker winner, Marie got kicked off for forgetting to turn the oven on. Even he can manage that!

So as these shocking photos show, Cakemole’s Husband / Creative Director / Chief Taster can actually be seen making a mixture entirely by himself, rolling out cookie dough and baking his very own Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies. God help his work colleagues!

First step is to colour coordinate with the oven

No you can’t use a melon baller!
